The fire initiative group includes the five fire companies that cover the Hellertown and Lower Saucon Township area:  Dewey, Leithsville, Se-Wy-Co, Southeastern and Steel City.  These companies serve Lower Saucon and Hellertown.  Because the five companies already work together, giving mutual aid when needed, they decided to band together to develop and implement the fire prevention and safety program.

The Saucon Valley Fire Education House is a 39-foot-long mobile structure. Rick Delmore, fire chief for Dewey Fire Co., said the fire education house is  “a more interactive approach to teaching fire prevention.” 

The Fire Education House is a combination house, with two different components.  In the front is a glass enclosed area where a sprinkler demo shows how quick sprinklers work in a real fire situation. The rest of the building is like a regular house, with a kitchen, living room and bedroom.  The house will be filled with smoke and participants shown how to safely escape. Various safety issues like stove safety will also be addressed.  The house is for all, young and old to learn from.
